Operational Excellence in the Post COVID-19 World

The COVID-19 pandemic has upended many of the assumptions on which the effectiveness of the business processes in place were based. Business processes designed with work dynamics that had disappeared and that have operated well before the crisis are no longer suitable for the new normal, disrupting business principles and strategies.

Typically, process improvement is a low risk but highly effective option for commercial performance improvement that can be undertaken in tandem with other transformation initiatives. It is also essential at times of major change, such as systems implementation, proposition development or restructuring, and especially now as we emerge from lockdown into a new world of work. Benefits are often tangible and quantifiable, including lower cost of operations; increased resilience and/or ability to operate high quality remote working practices; improved governance, operational and regulatory risk management; competitive service advantage driving increased business volume; enhanced customer experience; more productive, aligned and satisfied staff; and the transfer of process improvement skills as part of the engagement, arming the organisation as it evolves further.

As we move towards recovery preparing for the new normal, we need to implement the changes from the lesson learnt.

In conjunction with our alliance partner GrowCap, we have developed a simple self-assessment tool to provide a snapshot for senior management to determine if they have known issues or process pain points that need to be investigated further. VIP Apps Consulting bring a unique methodology, the AMOBI  framework, that provides a ‘holistic’ approach to process optimisation, encompassing business and systems in concert, which is combined with GrowCap’s industry and process excellence experience.

This post COVID-19 self-assessment has a suite questions covering customer experience, process effectiveness, use of technology, methods, measurement and management. Some of the questions that we’ve added relevant to changes driven by COVID-19 are:
